Today students took at test. If you were absent today you must take the test during lunch or after school on the week we return from Winter Break.

Happy Holidays!!!

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Today in class students worked on the practice test.

Homework: Finish practice test and graph the answer to #35 on the graph paper that was supplied in class. Be prepared for the final review in class tomorrow for the test on Friday.

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Today in class we studied the Point Slope Form and how to write the equation of the line with given two points.

I collected the final product for the cell phone plans and will be grading that over break. If you were absent today you must get that turned in to me as soon as you return to school.

I passed out the practice test.

Homework: Complete the practice test and use the textbook, classwork, warm-ups and Cornell Notes to help you complete this practice test.

Test this Friday. If you know you will not be at school this Friday you must take the test before we go on Winter Break.

Monday, December 16, 2013

Today in class we finalized what belongs in the "solve" and "check" section for the Cell Phone Problem. Students must review the rubric and finalize their work before they turn in tomorrow.

Today in class we reviewed how to transfer linear equations from standard form to slope intercept form and also how to find the x and y intercepts.

Homework: p. 169 #5-16 show all work and graph

Friday, December 13, 2013

Today in class we did a warm up problem involving two earning situations, translated them into linear form, graphed each line, then found their intersection. We discussed what what the intersection of the two lines means and the significance of the slope.

We continued to work on the "Cell Phone Problem." The due date has been extended to Monday 12/16. Students were told to exchange info so they can complete their group assignment by the start of class on Monday. Be sure to review the rubric so you maximize the number of points you can earn on this assignment.

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Today in class we continued working the cell phone plans. Students derived the linear equations and are expcted to have all 3 plans graphed on the same coordinate system when they arrive to class tomorrow.

I distributed the rubric I will be using to grade the assignment, which is worth 48 points.

Homework Due 12/13:
  • Worksheet #1-34
  • Calculator
  • Complete the graph for the cell phone plans

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Today in class we did a warm up about workers wages and the slope intercept form. We continued working on the "cell phone plans" group project.

Homework Due 12/12: Determine when it is best for a customer to select a plan that will save them the most money based on their texting usage.

I will also be checking to see if all students have a calculator. This will be worth 5 points.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Today in class students were presented with a problem called "Cell Phone Plans." They will be working in class on this problem for the next 2-3 days.

Homework Due on Friday 12/13/13 is to complete the worksheet on linear equations. Use the following link for the assignment or come to class during lunch to see the hard copy.

Monday, December 9, 2013

Today in class students worked on writing linear equations.

Homework: Prepare for binder check tomorrow (12/10). I will be checking homework assignments and warm up problems from the last two weeks of school. (This includes the week preceding Thanksgiving break)

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Today in class we reviewed slope and measured it's degrees. Period 3 and 4 reviewed Slope Intercept Form and periods 6 and 7 worked on p. 165 #1-13

Homework Due 12/6:
Periods 3 & 4 - Study for quiz 8. Must be able to find the slope using the slope formula, determine if the slope of a given line is more or less steep then a line with a slope of 1 and know what is the degree of the angle when the slope is 1.

Periods 6 & 7 - Study for quiz 8. Must be able to find the slope using the slope formula, determine if the slope of a given line is more or less steep then a line with a slope of 1 and know what is the degree of the angle when the slope is 1. AND finish p. 165 #1-13.

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Today in class we reviewed slope. Classwork assignment: Textbook p.165 #1-13

Tomorrow you will have a substitute so the following homework assignment is due on 12/5:

Highway Engineers are responsible for the steepness of the roads they construct. Investigate how they use percent to describe the grade of the road. Write a minimum of two paragraphs on what you learned.

Monday, December 2, 2013

Today in class we began 3-6 (Lines in the Coordinate Plane)

Homework Due 12/3 p. 169 #1-10. Must use the graph paper that was supplied in class.

I recommend all students to review the following tutorial on Khan Academy on-line to supplement today's lesson. http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/linear-equations-and-inequalitie/graphing_with_intercepts/v/graphing-using-x-and-y-intercepts
